HISA Approved Barrier Free Shower for Charles

Apr 24, 2025

We recently wrapped up a bathroom transformation designed with accessibility, comfort, and peace of mind at its core—and the results speak for themselves.

The project began with the careful removal of the old shower, including the base, wall panels, plumbing fixtures, and a section of tile flooring. To protect the rest of the home during demolition, we used a HEPA dust collection system to keep dust and debris to a minimum. Once the area was cleared and cleaned, we were ready to build from the ground up.

Next, we installed a barrier-free, slip-resistant shower base, perfect for easy entry. Moisture-resistant wall backing was added for durability, along with hidden reinforcements to support future safety features like grab bars and seating.

The shower walls were finished with a clean, low-maintenance acrylic surround in a classic tile pattern, and all seams were professionally sealed for long-lasting protection.

To improve both function and comfort, a new shower valve with dual controls was installed, along with a fixed shower head and a handheld option for added convenience.

Accessibility was a top priority. We added two supportive grab bars, carefully mounted with proper backing, and a fold-down shower seat to offer both comfort and security during use.

To enhance convenience, we added a built-in shower niche—perfect for keeping shampoo and bath essentials neatly organized and within easy reach.

The final touch will be the installation of custom glass, which is expected to take approximately 7–10 business days from the date of shower completion. This will provide a sleek, modern enclosure that not only elevates the look but also ensures full water containment. In the meantime, a temporary curtain allows the shower to be used immediately. Once the custom glass is in place, the transformation will be complete—seamlessly combining accessibility with contemporary style.
