HISA Approved Barrier Free Shower for Clifford

Apr 24, 2025

This recent renovation project brought a fresh new look and improved function to a bathroom space with a strong focus on accessibility, comfort, and modern style.

We started by removing the existing tub, shower pan, surround, glass, and plumbing fixtures. To ensure a clean process and minimal disruption, a HEPA dust collection system was used throughout demolition. Once cleared, the space was ready for its transformation.

A major improvement involved relocating the shower to the right side of the room, optimizing layout and accessibility. Walls were prepped with moisture-resistant backing, and solid reinforcements were installed to support safety features. A barrier-free, slip-resistant shower pan was placed, offering safer entry and exit. The walls were finished with a three-panel acrylic surround in a marble-inspired tone, and all joints were meticulously sealed for lasting protection.

The shower upgrade also included a new rain-style shower head with a handheld option, offering both relaxation and practicality. To maximize user comfort and safety, grab bars were securely mounted both inside the shower and in the nearby toilet area, all supported with reinforced wall backing.

A folding shower seat was added to provide comfort while conserving space when not in use. Additionally, a custom rain glass panel—with a sleek, easy-entry design and spot-resistant coating—will be installed once the shower is complete, eliminating the need for a door while maintaining a clean, contemporary look.

The renovation didn’t stop at the shower. Six rows of existing bathroom flooring were replaced and matched seamlessly with customer-supplied materials. To improve access to adjacent spaces, a wide barn door was installed into the closet, including framing and drywall adjustments. A new 32″ ADA-compliant door was also added, with updated trim to accommodate the increased width.

A thoughtful dry-off area was created beside the shower, finished with customer-selected tile and matching drywall texture. This extra space not only enhances safety but also adds a spa-like element to the overall experience.

This project showcases how functional design and beautiful updates can work hand-in-hand to create a space that supports independence while feeling comfortable, modern, and truly personalized.
