HISA Approved Barrier Free Shower for Danny

Apr 25, 2025

This recent remodel wasn’t just about updating a shower — it was about giving our client something far more valuable: comfort, safety, and a sense of ease in their daily routine.

The original shower setup had seen better days. It was cramped, outdated, and not at all suited for the mobility needs of the homeowner. So, we set out to create a space that would be both stylish and accessible — and most importantly, one that would feel good to use every single day.

We began by carefully removing the existing shower pan, glass, valve, and surround. As always, we used our HEPA dust collection system to keep dust levels low and protect the rest of the home during the demolition process.

Once the space was cleared, the transformation could begin.

The new shower features a striking black, slip-resistant barrier-free pan, sized generously at 35″ x 60″. To keep things accessible while still protecting against splashes, we added a collapsible foam threshold and a sleek curtain clip — smart solutions that preserve both style and function.

The walls were finished with a beautiful River Rock-colored acrylic surround, giving the entire shower a natural, textured look that’s both calming and contemporary. Every seam and edge was sealed meticulously, ensuring long-lasting durability and a water-tight finish.

But it wasn’t just about looks — safety and support were woven into every detail. We installed sturdy backing behind the walls to securely mount ADA-compliant grab bars in a matte black finish. One fold-down bar was installed near the toilet, along with a matching side grab bar — all placed exactly where the client needed them.

To enhance both safety and comfort in the shower, we added a wall-mounted folding seat with legs, sized perfectly at 18″ x 15″. It offers a supportive spot to rest, blending seamlessly into the design when not in use.

The showering experience itself got a major upgrade with the installation of a dual rain and handheld system, both in matte black to match the overall aesthetic. The handheld wand is mounted on a slide, allowing for easy adjustment and access.

To finish it off, we added a weighted black shower curtain and rod, giving the space a minimalist and modern edge while keeping things practical and contained.

This remodel was more than a renovation — it was a thoughtful reimagining of the space, built around the client’s needs and personal style. Every decision, from the color palette to the hardware, was made with purpose.

And the result? A sleek, accessible shower that feels as good as it looks.
