HISA Approved Barrier Free Shower for James

Apr 25, 2025

This bathroom had served its time. The tub, old shower pan, surround, glass, and outdated valve were ready to go—and the homeowners were ready for something better: safer, simpler, and much more comfortable. We began by carefully removing everything, using a HEPA dust collection system to keep the rest of the home as clean as possible while the transformation got underway.

Once the space was cleared, we prepped the walls with moisture-resistant greenboard and installed strong backing to support future grab bars. The foundation of the new shower was a white, composite stone barrier-free pan—slip-resistant, sturdy, and easy to access. We added a collapsible foam threshold and a shower curtain clip to help keep water where it belongs, without compromising the barrier-free design. The surround was completed with bright, clean acrylic panels in a fresh white tone, and every joint was sealed neatly with color-matched silicone for a polished finish.

To make everyday use both comfortable and secure, we installed a chrome-finished grab bar using an ADA-compliant mounting system, supported by solid 2×6 blocking behind the wall. The new shower setup also included a sleek valve and handheld wand in a matching chrome finish, adding both style and flexibility to the experience.

Rounding out the remodel was a smart upgrade to accessibility: a 32-inch ADA-compliant door, trimmed in and ready for paint. While we left the painting to the pros, we were happy to recommend someone the homeowner could trust.

By the end of the project, the bathroom didn’t just look refreshed—it felt like a completely different space. Modern, safe, and easy to use, it was everything the homeowner hoped for and more.
