What once was a dated, cramped tub-and-shower combo is now a sleek, barrier-free sanctuary designed with both beauty and accessibility in mind. The transformation began with a full demolition—removing the tub, old surround, shower glass, and outdated valve. From the start, care was taken to protect the rest of the home, with flooring and walkways in the master bedroom covered and a HEPA dust collection system running to minimize dust during the work.
Once the old materials were out, we rolled up our sleeves and reshaped the space from the ground up. We chipped through concrete to relocate the shower drain, installed a new p-trap, then carefully poured and leveled fresh concrete to support the upgrade. From there, a new 32″ x 52″ cultured marble shower pan went in—barrier-free, slip-resistant, and thoughtfully equipped with a collapsible foam threshold to help retain water while making access a breeze.
Walls were rebuilt with moisture-resistant greenboard and reinforced with blocking to support ADA-compliant grab bars and a fold-down seat. A crisp, white marble-look 5-piece surround was installed, sealed edge-to-edge with silicone and caulk to keep everything watertight and worry-free. A white folding shower seat was mounted securely on the wall, perfectly paired with a handheld shower wand placed within easy reach for comfort and convenience.
Finishing touches made all the difference. A new mixing valve was installed, along with a fresh chrome shower head and handheld. Three sturdy grab bars were positioned throughout the space for added safety and peace of mind. A simple chrome curtain rod and weighted shower curtain replaced the old sliding glass doors, keeping things light and open while maintaining privacy. Even the trim at the base of the shower was given careful attention, bringing the whole space together with a clean, polished look.
What started as an ordinary bathroom is now a calming, spa-inspired space that’s not only visually elevated but also built to meet everyday needs with ease. It’s safe, stylish, and ready for its next chapter.
