When it came time to make their bathroom more accessible and modern, this homeowner decided to replace their old tub with a clean, functional, and stylish barrier-free shower. What started as a simple desire for better accessibility quickly became a full-scale transformation—one that balanced safety, convenience, and sleek design.
The first step was demolition. The team carefully removed the existing tub, surround, and valve, making sure to haul away every bit of debris. Throughout the process, a HEPA dust collection system helped keep the rest of the home dust-free and livable—an essential touch that made all the difference during renovation.
With the space cleared, the real transformation began. Moisture-resistant greenboard was installed to prep the walls, followed by structural backing designed to support grab bars. A slip-resistant, white composite stone shower pan was placed, its barrier-free design making entry easy and safe. The drain was relocated to fit the new configuration, and a collapsible foam threshold with a shower curtain clip was added to help contain water, even without a traditional door.
The new shower surround—a crisp, clean white acrylic—wrapped around three walls, its joints and pan meticulously sealed to prevent any future leaks.
But the project didn’t stop at the basics. For added function and a touch of elegance, the homeowner opted for a modern shower valve setup featuring both a shower head and a handheld wand. Chrome grab bars—three in total—were installed with full ADA-compliant support behind the walls. A sleek metal corner shelf went up exactly where the homeowner wanted it, and the finishing touch: a chrome curtain rod paired with a weighted shower curtain for both style and splash protection.
