HISA Approved Barrier Free Shower for Nolverto

Apr 24, 2025

Sometimes, transforming a space is about more than a fresh look—it’s about making it safer, more functional, and better suited for daily life. That’s exactly what we did with this full bathroom renovation, turning an outdated setup into a sleek, barrier-free oasis.

The journey began with a major demolition. Out went the old shower pan, tub, surround, valve, pony wall, and glass—all carefully removed and hauled away. To protect the rest of the home from dust, we used a HEPA-certified dust collection system, keeping the air clean and the mess contained.

With a blank canvas in front of us, it was time to build something better. First, we extended a new pony wall to the end of the window to create a stylish and functional divider for the shower. This pony wall was finished with the same white subway-patterned acrylic as the rest of the three-wall shower surround and topped with a marble cap for a polished touch.

We prepped the walls with moisture-resistant greenboard and installed solid backing to support ADA-compliant grab bars. A barrier-free, slip-resistant composite shower pan (36″ x 60″, center drain) was set into place, complete with a newly located drain to accommodate the layout. Every seam and joint was sealed tight to keep water where it belongs.

For an elevated experience, we added a rain-style shower head along with a handheld wand, both in a modern brushed nickel finish. These were paired with a sleek single-handle valve for easy and consistent water control.

The floor was updated too—where the old tub once sat, we installed beautiful mosaic tile, selected by the homeowner. It blended seamlessly into the rest of the space and brought a touch of personal flair to the design.

Framing the new shower space is a custom 3/8″ frameless glass panel with brushed nickel hardware. The homeowner chose the perfect width for the panel, ensuring a customized fit and a clean, open look that keeps the space feeling bright.

Inside the shower, we installed a pair of floating teak seats—warm, water-resistant, and foldable for flexibility and space-saving. Matching brushed nickel grab bars, including both 24″ and 18″ sizes with a curled grip design, were added in key spots throughout the shower for both safety and style.

The result? A bathroom that checks every box: comfortable, accessible, elegant, and personalized. With thoughtful details and high-quality finishes, this transformation proves that functional design can also be beautiful—and that every inch of your space can work better for you.
