Sometimes the most transformative home improvements start in the most functional spaces—like the bathroom. In this recent renovation, we had the opportunity to help a homeowner turn an outdated and impractical shower into a modern, barrier-free oasis designed with both safety and comfort in mind.
We kicked off the project with a full demolition, removing the existing shower pan, tub, surround, and plumbing valve. Everything was carefully hauled away to make room for the new setup. To ensure the rest of the home stayed clean and safe, we used a high-efficiency HEPA dust collection system to minimize any dust during the tear-down process.
With the space cleared and prepped, we began building the foundation for the new barrier-free shower. The walls were lined with moisture-resistant backing, creating a solid, water-safe surface to support everything that would come next. Reinforced support was added behind the walls—an essential step for the grab bars and folding seat that would provide peace of mind and ease of use.
The centerpiece of the renovation was a sleek 32″ x 60″ white composite stone shower pan—barrier-free and slip-resistant, making it ideal for accessibility and comfort. Above it, we installed a three-wall acrylic surround in a clean white subway tile pattern, a timeless choice that adds both brightness and charm. Every seam and joint was carefully sealed to protect against water intrusion.
To elevate functionality, we installed a new shower valve paired with a handheld wand in a crisp chrome finish. This flexible setup is perfect for anyone who values ease of use, whether it’s for everyday comfort or a more accessible bathing experience.
On the walls, a sturdy 24″ chrome grab bar was installed with an ADA-compliant mounting system. It blends seamlessly into the design while providing essential support. For added convenience, two metal corner shelves were placed exactly where the homeowner wanted them—ideal for keeping soaps, shampoos, and other necessities within easy reach.
The shower entrance was reimagined with a frosted glass sliding door—one fixed panel and one sliding—for smooth operation and a touch of privacy. To help keep the glass looking spotless, it features an interior spot-resistant coating, though a squeegee is always a handy companion to maintain that fresh-out-of-the-box look.
Lastly, a folding teak shower seat was installed, supported by a reinforced 2×6 backing. It’s the perfect blend of style and utility, offering a warm natural tone that contrasts beautifully with the cool chrome accents throughout the space.
The end result? A bathroom that feels brand new—safe, stylish, and designed to meet the homeowner’s everyday needs without compromising on aesthetics. This project is a great reminder that thoughtful design and practical upgrades can completely transform the way we experience our homes.
